Title: Radio Technologies for 5G Evolution and 6G

Bio: Mr. Takehiro Nakamura joined NTT Laboratories in 1990. He is now Chief Standardization Officer in NTT DOCOMO, Inc. Mr. Nakamura has been engaged in R&D and the standardization activities for advanced radio and network technologies of W-CDMA, HSPA, LTE/LTE-Advanced, 5G and 6G, and engaged in strengthening inter-industry collaboration. He has been contributing to standardization activities in ARIB, ITU and 3GPP since 1997, including as vice chair and chair of 3GPP TSG-RAN from 2005 to 2013. Currently, he plays important roles to promote and accelerate 5G and 6G in Japan and globally as the Acting Chairman of Strategy & Planning Committee and the leader of Millimeter wave Promotion Ad Hoc of 5G Mobile Communications Promotion Forum(5GMF), the leader of Cellular System Task Group of ITS Info-communications Forum, the leader of White Paper Subcommittee in Beyond 5G Promotion Consortium in Japan and the Board member of 5G-ACIA.

 

Bruno ClerckxBruno Clerckx, CTO, Silicon Austria Lab, Austria

Title: Multiple Access Techniques for Intelligent and Multi-Functional 6G: Overview, Outlook, and Pathways to Standardization

Bio: Bruno Clerckx is a (Full) Professor, the Head of the Wireless Communications and Signal Processing Lab, and the Head of the Communications and Signal Processing Group, within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Imperial College London, London, U.K. He received the MSc and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, and the Doctor of Science (DSc) degree from Imperial College London, U.K. Prior affiliations include Samsung Electronics, South Korea, where he actively contributed to 4G (3GPP LTE/LTE-A and IEEE 802.16m) and Silicon Austria Labs (SAL), Austria, where he was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) responsible for all research areas of Austria's top research center for electronic based systems. He has authored two books on “MIMO Wireless Communications” and “MIMO Wireless Networks”, 300 peer-reviewed international research papers, and 150 standards contributions, and is the inventor of 80 issued or pending patents among which several have been adopted in the specifications of 4G standards and are used by billions of devices worldwide. His research spans the general area of wireless communications and signal processing for wireless networks. He received the prestigious Blondel Medal 2021 from France for exceptional work contributing to the progress of Science and Electrical and Electronic Industries, the 2021 Adolphe Wetrems Prize in mathematical and physical sciences from Royal Academy of Belgium, multiple awards from Samsung, IEEE best student paper award, and the EURASIP (European Association for Signal Processing) best paper award 2022. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the IET.

 

Amira AlloumDr. Amira Alloum, Sr. Staff Engineer, Qualcomm, France

Title: XR Evolution to the Metaverse

Bio: Dr. Amira Alloum is a Senior Staff Engineer at Qualcomm, Leading  Qualcomm Wireless R&D Center in France. Amira’s work at Qualcomm is at the leading edge of 5G Advanced and 6G research, including the setup of the 5G/6G innovation platform project in Lannion France, as integrating the Qualcomm global R&D  engagements on XR, IOT, Automotive, Private Networks and  NTN trials into the   6G European  Research. Her professional tenure spans over 15 years in industrial R&D for International Telecom Industries (Infra & Device Vendors, Operators, Chipset Vendors) and European Research Centers (CNES, inria, Telecom Paris). Amira contributed as a Principal Engineer in the field of applied error correcting coding in wireless communication & standards, post quantum security and optics within Nokia Bell Labs, Alcatel Lucent , Huawei, and Orange. She contributed to 3GPP RAN1 Release 15 effort for the selection and the design of error correcting codes of 5G NR, as earlier to the upper layer decoding design of DVB-SH standard and to the specification of Alcatel Lucent LTE Modem. She has contributed to research projects and publications in collaboration with Professors at global top ranked universities and research centers in Europe, North America, India, China and Middle East ,  and mentored post graduate students affiliated to these Institutions. The highest degree Amira holds is a PhD. degree Majoring in Information Theory from Institute Mines Telecom/Telecom Paris. Her PhD and Post-Doctoral research were granted by Orange Labs, CNES and Bell Labs.

Riccardo TrivisonnoRiccardo Trivisonno, Head of Network Architecture, Huawei Technologies, Germany

Title: Towards 6G System Architecture – Intelligent User Plane and In-Network Computing

Bio: Riccardo Trivisonno (Senior Member, IEEE) received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in telecommunications engineering from the University of Bologna in 2000 and 2005, respectively. He joined Huawei Technologies in 2011 and he is currently serving as Head of Network Architecture — Research and Standardization — for the Advanced Wireless Technologies Laboratory, Munich Research Center. Over the past ten years, he has been a leading contributor to the definition and the standardization of 5G network architecture and technologies, delivering to 3GPP Releases 15 - 18 — in the areas of architecture modularization, network slicing, network analytics and QoS—filing ~100 Standard Essential Patent applications. His research focus shifted to 6G enabling technologies since 2020. He has been the Chairman of 6G-IA Pre-standardization WG since 2020, a Board Member of one6G Association since its foundation, in 2021, and he was elected one6G Board Vice-Chair in 2023.

 

Anita DohlerAnita Dohler, CEO, NGMN Alliance, Germany

Title: The Path to 6G and 6G Operator View

Bio: Anita Doehler has extensive international experience in various business areas including senior management positions with mobile network operators, vendors and consulting firms. From 2016 until 2020, she held senior management positions at Accenture. Prior, she worked at Vodafone Group for 16 years, before at E-Plus and Philips, among others. Anita holds a Dipl.-Ing. degree in Telecommunication Engineering as well as an Executive MBA degree. Furthermore, she is a Systemic Business Coach.  

Anita is passionate about driving technology innovation for the benefit of humans and societies and supporting world’s leading operators, vendors and research institutes. Since July 2020 she has been the CEO of the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance (NGMN).

 

Valerio FrascollaValerio Frascolla, Director Research and Innovation, Intel Germany

Title: Predictable Networks and TSN: Benefit on the Manufacturing Vertical Sector

Bio: Dr. Valerio Frascolla (MSc and PhD in Electronic Engineering) works as Director of Research and Innovation at Intel and had been working at Ancona University, Comneon, and Infineon. He serves as advisory board member of 8 European research projects and covered various roles in other 20. He has expertise in wireless system architecture, standardization and business aspects; his main research domains are wireless systems design with focus on 6G, spectrum management and edge and AI. Valerio is Vice-President of BDVA, and is author of 90+ peer-reviewed publications (Google Scholar h=24), TPC member of 120+ conferences, reviewer for 70+ journals.

Bios

M. Majid ButtM. Majid Butt is a senior research specialist at Nokia Bell Labs, USA, and an adjunct Research Professor at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Prior to that, he has held various positions at the University of Glasgow, U.K., Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and Fraunhofer HHI, Germany. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed articles. He also has contributed to more than 100 filed/granted patent families in cellular networks domain and was declared outstanding Nokia inventor of the year for years 2021 and 2022. Dr. Butt was a recipient of the Marie Curie Alain Bensoussan Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics. He has served as an associate editor for IEEE Communication Magazine and serves as an associate editor for IEEE Open Journal of the Communication Society and IEEE Open Journal of Vehicular Technology. He is a senior member of IEEE and IEEE COMSOC distinguished speaker for the class of 2022-2023.

 

Mikko UusitaloMikko Uusitalo is Head of Research Department Radio Systems Research Finland at Nokia Bell Labs. Mikko is leading the European 6G Flagship project Hexa-X-II and was leading Hexa-X. He obtained a M.Sc. (Eng.) and Dr.Tech. in 1993 and 1997 and a B.Sc. (Economics) in 2003, all from predecessors of Aalto University. Mikko has been at Nokia since 2000 with various roles, including Principal Researcher and Head of International Cooperation at Nokia Research. Mikko is a founding member of the CELTIC EUREKA and WWRF, the latter one he chaired for 2004-2006. Mikko is a WWRF Fellow. Mikko has been nominated among Nokia top inventors six times, Mikko’s H-index is 40 and i10-index 110. Mikko has more than 230 granted patents. In 2020 Mikko received the Cross of Merit of the Order of White Rose from the President of Finland. Mikko has and has had numerous board and advisory positions in many important groups in the industry, academia or government side.

 

Mikko UusitaloPaulina Chan is a global citizen. She resides and works in Hong Kong, the U.S. and the UK. She is a strong advocate for women, young professionals and pre-university students in STEM for personal aspiration and career development. Paulina received the PhD and DIC in Electrical Engineering at Imperial College London), and the MBA in University of London.

Paulina is the Principal and CEO of Global Mutual Innovation Consortium, an international think-tank on tech-biz intelligence and innovation business development. Major initiatives include corporate digital transformation, personal & public communications networks, ESG policy and AI for humanity. 

She has been the Managing Director and expatriate of AT&T/Lucent Technologies (US, Asia/Pacific, the EU); Project Director of Exxon/Mobil Corporation Headquarters (New York); China Regional General Manager and expatriate of ICO Global Communications (London, Beijing).

Paulina is an active volunteer leader serving IEEE and like-minded professional societes worldwide.  At  IEEE, Paulina is Vice-chair of WICE; Liason on ComSoc Industry Outreach Board; Immediate-Past-Chair of IEEE Public Visibility and Vice-chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committees; the Hong Kong Fund Manager of the IEEE Foundation; Co-chair of the IEEE Presidential Adhoc Committees on “IEEE Your Professional Home” and “Public Policy Council”; Member on Standards Associations; and the Champion of “TryEngineering on AI for Pre-university Students”.  Paulina has also  been the Chair of the Hong Kong Section and General Chair of TENCON 22.

Paulina is a certified Chartered Manager (CMgr) and appointed Chartered Companion (CCMI) of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI, Hqs UK), the highest membership ranking of the British Royal Institute.  She is the Immediate-Past- Chair of the CMI Regional Board in Hong Kong. 

Paulina has also been an Executive Director on the Board of International Society of Automation (ISA Hqs USA); Member on the Global MBA Advisory Board of Hong Kong University SPACE-University of London; Founding  and incumbent Champion of the Imperial College Mentoring Programme; and former Imperial College Ambassador.

In recognition, Paulina is the Receipient of the IEEE Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Award (2023) and the IEEE Leadership Award (2021).
